Combat: How to Fight
Attack a monster once and you keep swinging until it drops. Pick a target, watch your health, and back off before you're in over your head.
Fighting in Wyvern is one command and a lot of watching your health. You start a fight; the game keeps the swings coming.
Start a fight
Point at what you want dead:
kill and attack are the same command. Give it a target, or just type kill by itself and you'll go after the nearest good target.
You can also simply walk into a monster — bumping an enemy starts an attack, the same way walking into a door opens it.
Keep swinging
You don't re-type the command every round. Once you start a fight you keep attacking that target automatically, swing after swing, until it dies or you choose something else. To switch, just kill the new target.
Fix a target with target <name> and your attacks (and spells) default to it — handy when a room is crowded.
Watch your health
Your health (HP) and spell points (SP) show in the client bars and on your score screen:
sc, stats, and points all open the same screen. When your HP runs low, stop fighting.
Backing off
There's no panic button — Wyvern has no flee command. To disengage, stop attacking and move away: step out of reach and the monster may not follow. Put distance between you and the fight, heal up, and come back when you're ready.
Bumping into a monster starts a fight, so watch where you walk when you're low on health — a stray step into an enemy can restart the swings.
