Your character grows by putting training points into skills. You earn the points by adventuring and spend them with trainers.

This lists everything you can train and where each skill stands.
Train up
Find a trainer for the skill you want and spend your points:
Trainers are NPCs — talk to one and it'll tell you what it teaches and what it costs. Some skills come from your guild or class; a trainer will only raise what it knows.
Second thoughts
Spent a point somewhere you'd rather not have? You can pull it back and re-allocate:
untrain reverses a specific training choice; adjust opens the wider re-allocation flow.
Check skills before and after visiting a trainer so you can see exactly what your points bought.
