Pick things up, put on armour, draw a weapon, and check what you're carrying — the everyday commands for handling your stuff.
Everything you carry, wear, and wield is handled with a handful of short commands.
Picking things up and dropping them
get, take, and loot all pick things up; drop puts them down. To stash something inside a bag or chest:

Armour is worn; weapons are wielded:
Take gear off with remove (armour) or unwield (weapons). unwear and unequip also work for armour. Some items — bows, wands — are readied before use:
Checking what you have
i and inv are the short forms. Your inventory shows what's worn and wielded too — there's no separate equipment screen. For a closer look at any one item:
exa is the short form of examine.
Using and sharing items
use works the same as apply; quaff works the same as drink. Handing an item to another player is just give <item> to <player>.
Not sure what an item is worth? appraise <item> reads its value — sharper the better your Merchant skill.
